An Indian national working in the Maldives has been arrested after attempting to enter a restricted security zone at Velana International Airport (VIA) using an access pass issued to another person.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Sanjeeva Reddy Yelma, was taken into custody while attempting to pass through Gate 51 on the eastern side of the airport. Authorities revealed that he utilized an access pass issued by the Aviation and Port Security Command to a different foreign worker—whose work visa has since been canceled.
When produced before the Criminal Court for a remand hearing, Sanjeeva claimed that the pass was provided to him by his employer.
However, citing sufficient preliminary evidence of unauthorized entry into a restricted area and concerns over potential risks to public safety, the Criminal Court ordered him to be remanded in custody for 15 days.
