Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that all operations at Hanimaadhoo International Airport will be relocated to the ground floor of the newly constructed terminal starting tomorrow, as part of final preparations for the terminal’s official opening on November 9.

According to MACL, the relocation is a key step in the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) process, ensuring a smooth transition to the new facility. The move also aligns with operational adjustments required for the airport’s new runway, which is designed to accommodate Code C aircraft in compliance with Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) standards.

MACL stated that to achieve full runway clearance, certain high structures near the runway must be vacated and dismantled. The island council and relevant agencies have already been notified of the operational changes.

The company added that final preparations for the new terminal are underway, including equipment testing, staff training, and system readiness checks, to ensure that operations meet national and international aviation standards.

The new Hanimaadhoo terminal, part of a major northern aviation development initiative, will significantly enhance connectivity and passenger capacity, positioning the airport as a key regional hub once fully operational.
