Heavy Traffic Expected at Velana International Airport on January 3

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has issued a public advisory for travelers departing from Velana International Airport (VIA) on January 3, 2025, to anticipate significant congestion due to the arrival of Umrah pilgrims.
MACL recommends passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to their scheduled departure to ensure smooth processing through the terminals. The advisory also extends to taxi centers and drivers, urging them to maintain timely pick-ups and drop-offs and to ensure traffic flow around the airport premises remains uninterrupted.
Peak Passenger Movements
The anticipated congestion is attributed to the arrival of large groups of Umrah pilgrims, alongside regular passenger traffic. The peak hours are expected to be:
- Morning (06:00 to 09:00):
- Afternoon (14:00 to 16:00):
Travelers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays and inconvenience.
