Lamine Yamal
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has made a bold statement in the 2026 Ballon d’Or race, insisting that he deserves to win the prestigious individual award while naming Kylian Mbappé as his main rival.
Speaking to Movistar, Yamal said he considers himself and Mbappé the two best players in world football. He also argued that the Ballon d’Or should be about individual quality rather than simply which team wins major trophies.
Yamal also highlighted the direct rivalry between himself and Mbappé, with the Spaniard representing Barcelona and the Frenchman playing for Real Madrid.
The 19-year-old believes his achievements during the season strengthen his claim for the award.
Yamal helped Barcelona retain La Liga before playing a key role in Spain’s 2026 World Cup triumph, while Mbappé enjoyed a prolific campaign and finished as the top scorer in La Liga, the Champions League and the World Cup, although Real Madrid did not win a major trophy.
With the Ballon d’Or ceremony scheduled for October 26 in London, the debate between Yamal, Mbappé and the other leading contenders is intensifying.
