
World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region Johannes Zutt paid a courtesy call on Maldives Finance Minister Hassan Zareer, with discussions focusing on key economic and public-sector reforms.
According to the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises, the meeting covered revenue and expenditure reforms, public financial management, and opportunities for World Bank support for the government’s strategic reform agenda.
Minister Zareer also expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s arrangement of the Emergency Support for Critical Services Project, which aims to help maintain essential services and logistics in the Maldives by ensuring the continuity of critical fuel supplies.
The discussions further addressed the Maldives’ environmental priorities and long-term energy transition, including renewable energy, as well as potential areas for future World Bank assistance.
