Minister of Health Geela Ali met today with the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Her Excellency Ishigami Rumiko, to discuss ongoing bilateral projects and explore new avenues for collaboration in the healthcare and social sectors.

A key focus of the high-level meeting was the development of robust systems for healthy ageing and elderly care, with both officials addressing the quality of services required to support the elderly population.

The discussions also extended to strengthening primary healthcare services across local islands and enhancing the capacity of the health workforce through targeted human resource development and training initiatives.

During the meeting, Minister Geela Ali expressed deep appreciation for Japan’s enduring, long-term assistance in developing the Maldives' national healthcare and social protection frameworks, thanking the Ambassador and the Japanese government for their steadfast partnership.
