Visit Maldives Club Opens Registration for “Burunu Boma”

The Visit Maldives Club (VMC) has opened registrations for the country’s largest sport fishing tournament, Burunu Boma, set to take place in May 2025. The tournament aims to bring together anglers from across the Maldives and the world, with participants competing for a grand prize of USD 10,000.
Spearheaded by the staff of the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the Visit Maldives Club (VMC) launched the event on December 20, 2024, at the Malé Table Tennis Hall. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam, along with key industry stakeholders.
A Platform to Promote Maldivian Tourism and Sustainable Fishing
The Burunu Boma Sports Fishing Tournament is designed to promote sustainable fishing practices while strengthening the Maldives’ position as a top global tourism destination. The competition will follow a catch-and-release system, ensuring the protection of marine life while fostering responsible fishing.
“As the largest and most prestigious sport fishing tournament in the Maldives, Burunu Boma is expected to attract international and local anglers, further boosting tourism and marine conservation efforts,” said the event organizers.
