To honor three pivotal moments in marine conservation—World Reef Awareness Day, World Environment Day, and World Oceans Day—InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort has launched a week-long guest itinerary. Taking place during the first week of June, the curated program blends luxury hospitality with environmental education, community engagement, and hands-on conservation.
Developed in tandem with the resort’s on-site marine biology team and long-term partners, The Manta Trust and Ocean Group, the initiatives allow travelers of all ages to actively support the fragile Maldivian ecosystem.
The eco-festivities kicked off on June 1 for World Reef Awareness Day. The resort’s Planet Trekkers Kids’ Club, alongside researchers from The Manta Trust, hosted an ocean-themed origami workshop to teach junior guests about marine life. Families later gathered in the garden for a cozy, open-air starlight screening of Finding Nemo.
The interactive family tracks culminate on June 8 for World Oceans Day with the island-wide "Finding Nemo Expedition"—a treasure hunt designed to combine exploration with marine discovery. Children can also participate in ocean-themed cookie decorating, face painting, and a Marine Animal Sandcastle Building Competition that integrates a coastal shoreline clean-up. Young participants will be officially recognized during the Ocean Guardians Ceremony, receiving certificates and an "Ocean Protector" badge. The day finishes with a beachside screening of A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures, followed by an Ocean Quiz trivia night at the pool bar.
To align physical wellness with ecological mindfulness, the resort’s overwater AVI Spa is debuting its limited-edition, 90-minute Ocean Bliss Ritual. This thalassotherapy-inspired treatment utilizes marine elements to detoxify and restore. The ritual features a mineral-rich sea salt body scrub to renew the skin, followed by a deeply nourishing seaweed clay wrap, allowing guests to relax in harmony with the sounds of the surrounding Indian Ocean.
Culinary excellence takes a sustainable turn at The Lighthouse, the resort’s flagship Mediterranean dining venue. Chef Arun has curated an exclusive Ocean to Table tasting menu highlighting responsibly sourced seafood and vibrant Maldivian flavors. Guests can enjoy this sustainable culinary journey paired with 360-degree panoramic views of the Raa Atoll lagoon.
The special menu complements Maamunagau’s versatile dining portfolio, which includes fresh catches at The Fish Market, casual wood-fired bites at The Collective, and adults-only premium lounging at The Retreat.
Education remains a central pillar of InterContinental Maldives' identity. Throughout the week, guests can join hands-on Coral Restoration Workshops. Hosted by resident marine biologists, these interactive sessions give travelers an insider's look at the coral propagation frameworks used to rehabilitate local house reefs.
By actively planting coral fragments, guests leave a positive, measurable impact on the Maldives' underwater biodiversity, long after their vacation concludes.
