Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has departed for Geneva to participate in the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board meeting, scheduled from February 3 to 11. The meeting will bring together health leaders from 34 countries to discuss and make pivotal decisions on global health challenges.

As part of the meeting, the WHO Executive Board will focus on critical agenda items, including enhancing countries' capacities to respond to health emergencies, advancing universal health coverage in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and addressing the growing health impacts of climate change. The board will also deliberate on strategies to ensure the effective delivery of WHO aid to member nations.

This year, the Maldives will hold the distinguished position of Vice Chair of the WHO Executive Board, providing the opportunity to chair various segments of the meeting. The Maldives has been representing the South-East Asia region on the Executive Board since May 2022, and the country will maintain this role throughout its three-year term.

Minister Nazim is also scheduled to engage in several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event. These discussions aim to strengthen international support for the Maldives' health sector, focusing on areas such as human resource development, public health initiatives, and enhancing health infrastructure.

The WHO Executive Board meeting serves as a key platform for shaping global health policies and fostering international cooperation in addressing health challenges worldwide.
