Maldives FM Meets Omani Deputy Prime Minister to Bolster Bilateral Ties

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, paid a courtesy call on His Highness Sayyed Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, during his official visit to Oman. The meeting underscored the enduring friendship and growing cooperation between the two nations.

Exchange of Greetings and Commitment to Strengthening Ties

Minister Dr. Khaleel conveyed warm greetings from His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the people of the Maldives to Oman’s leadership and people. In return, His Highness Sayyed Asaad bin Tariq Al Said extended greetings from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said to President Dr. Muizzu and the Maldivian people.

The Deputy Prime Minister warmly welcomed Minister Dr. Khaleel and reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to deepening the bilateral partnership. Minister Dr. Khaleel expressed gratitude for Oman’s longstanding support to the Maldives, particularly during times of crisis, highlighting the solidarity between the two nations.

Discussions on Strengthening Economic Cooperation

The discussions focused on enhancing economic collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including:

  1. Trade and Investment: Expanding opportunities for economic partnerships.
  2. Tourism: Leveraging shared cultural and environmental interests to boost tourism.
  3. Fisheries: Strengthening cooperation to benefit both nations' fisheries sectors.

These initiatives aim to elevate bilateral ties to new heights and foster sustainable development in both countries.

High-Level Delegations in Attendance

The Deputy Prime Minister was accompanied by Oman’s Foreign Minister, His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, showcasing the importance of this engagement. Minister Dr. Khaleel was joined by a high-level delegation comprising Dr. Hala Hameed, Secretary, Bilateral, Ms. Fathimath Naeema, Senior Under Secretary and Mr. Mohamed Shujau, Assistant Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting highlighted the commitment of both nations to advancing their shared goals and enhancing bilateral relations. With a focus on economic growth and cooperation, the Maldives and Oman are poised to unlock new opportunities for mutual benefit.
