The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has taken disciplinary action following an incident involving the Sri Lanka U20 national team after their AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifier against the Maldives.

FFSL has announced the immediate dismissal of the Sri Lanka U20 assistant coach, following an initial review of conduct described by the federation as inappropriate and unacceptable.

The decision comes after the Maldives recorded a commanding 4-0 victory over Sri Lanka in the AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers. The result secured the Maldives a place in the next qualification phase.

FFSL President Jaswar Umar reaffirmed the federation's position that discipline, professionalism and integrity must be maintained, particularly within youth national-team programmes.

The federation said the dismissal was enforced with immediate effect, underlining its commitment to maintaining appropriate standards among national-team coaching staff.

The incident has added further attention to a match that was already significant for the Maldives, with the young national side securing a convincing win and progressing to the next stage of the AFC U20 qualification pathway.
