The Maldives has expressed its full support for the endorsement of the New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, adopted at the second plenary meeting of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The resolution was passed with an overwhelming majority, securing 142 votes in favour, 10 against, and 12 abstentions.

The New York Declaration is the outcome document of the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-chaired by the governments of France and Saudi Arabia and held at the United Nations from 28–30 July 2025.

The declaration reflects the international community’s strong commitment to a just and lasting resolution of the Palestinian conflict, with a clear vision for the establishment of an independent, sovereign, economically viable, and democratic Palestinian state. It also reinforces the principles of international law, including respect for territorial integrity, human rights, and the right to self-determination.

Reaffirming its long-standing stance, the Maldives reiterated its commitment to an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and international law.
