The Ministry of Homeland Security has announced that foreign workers in the Maldives must update their biometric data by April 20, warning that failure to do so will result in deportation.

In a statement released Wednesday, the ministry urged employers to ensure compliance with the deadline. Previously, the ministry had directed employers to coordinate with local councils to update the biometrics of workers in the atolls before March 1.

For workers employed in resorts, safaris, agricultural islands, and industrial islands, biometric updates should be completed by working with the National Center for Information Technology (NCIT) or the nearest council office.

The ministry emphasized that foreigners who fail to update their biometric data within the stipulated period will be suspended from the Expat system, making them ineligible for employment-related services.

The government has been taking strict measures to regulate expatriate workers and enhance security protocols in the country.
