The Santiago Bernabéu turned into a celebration of Spain’s 2026 World Cup triumph as Marc Cucurella returned to the stadium holding the World Cup trophy, receiving a warm tribute from the Real Madrid faithful.

Cucurella, part of Spain’s historic World Cup-winning squad, was honoured by the Bernabéu crowd before Real Madrid’s league clash with Real Sociedad.

Madrid fans also paid tribute to Mikel Oyarzabal, who was on the opposing side but played a key role in Spain’s memorable World Cup triumph. The Sociedad forward was among the players who created the special moment for Spanish football, and Madrid supporters acknowledged his contribution despite being an opponent on the night.

On the pitch, however, Real Madrid showed no mercy as they secured a convincing victory over Sociedad.

Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick, while Vinícius Júnior also found the net as Madrid powered to another three points. Sociedad’s only goal came from Luka Sučić, but it was not enough to prevent another defeat.

The victory gives Real Madrid six points from their opening two matches, moving them to the top of the league table.

For Real Sociedad, the result extends a difficult start to the campaign. After suffering their second consecutive defeat, Sociedad remain at the bottom of the table without a point.

While Madrid celebrated another emphatic victory, the night ultimately belonged to a special group of Spanish football heroes, with Cucurella and Oyarzabal receiving a memorable reception from the Bernabéu.
