Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has officially launched its seasonal service connecting Shenzhen, China, and Malé via Bangkok, marking a significant step forward in the airline’s international expansion strategy. The inaugural flight, which arrived in the Maldives on 9 July 2025, recorded an impressive load factor of over 95%, reflecting strong market demand.

The new route is operated using Maldivian’s Airbus A320 aircraft, offering passengers a comfortable and efficient flight experience with personalised service and onboard refreshments. The launch reflects Maldivian’s continued commitment to the Chinese market and its strategic focus on expanding direct air connectivity between China and the Maldives.

The addition of Shenzhen complements Maldivian’s existing network in China, which already includes non-stop weekly services to Beijing (PEK), Shanghai (PVG), and Chengdu (TFU) operated by the airline’s Airbus A330-200 wide-body fleet. These routes have become essential gateways for Chinese travellers visiting the Maldives’ world-renowned resorts and idyllic beaches.

The new Shenzhen–Malé service via Bangkok is expected to:

• Strengthen bilateral tourism relations,
• Support increased visitor arrivals from southern China, and
• Contribute to national efforts to diversify inbound markets.
