Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has reached a historic milestone with the successful launch of its first Hajj flight for the 2025 season. The flight departed Velana International Airport directly to Saudi Arabia, carrying the hopes and prayers of Maldivian pilgrims.
The special Hajj operation was powered by Maldivian’s newest addition to its fleet, the state-of-the-art Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft. This marks the airline’s bold step into long-haul, international religious travel—offering unprecedented comfort and capacity.
This inaugural journey follows a landmark agreement signed earlier this year between Maldivian and the Maldives Hajj Corporation. Under this partnership, Maldivian will transport 500 pilgrims—half of the nation’s Hajj quota—for the 2025 season.
The Airbus A330 ensures high standards of safety and comfort, while a full Maldivian crew delivers an onboard experience rich with warmth and cultural pride. This direct service eliminates the need for third-party connections, making the spiritual journey smoother and more meaningful.
The historic flight underscores Maldivian’s growing international capabilities—made possible through government-backed expansion and strategic fleet development. It is a key milestone in the airline’s vision to connect the Maldives more closely with the world.
This new route addresses a deeply personal and spiritual need within the Maldivian community. It’s not just a flight—it’s a commitment to service, tradition, and national pride.
Maldivian’s foray into religious travel marks the beginning of what is expected to be a long-term dedication to serving the faith-based travel needs of Maldivians. With safety, reliability, and customer service at its heart, the airline is ready to fly higher than ever.
