Maafaru International Airport, managed by Island Aviation Services Limited, ended 2024 on a high note, recording 98 private jet movements in December alone, cementing its role as a vital hub for luxury travel in the Maldives.
Despite a temporary closure from June to September for a runway expansion project, the airport demonstrated resilience and continued growth. Its strategic location and upgraded facilities make it a preferred gateway for high-net-worth tourists traveling to the luxury resorts of Noonu Atoll.
The runway expansion, completed before the peak holiday season, has enhanced the airport’s capacity to accommodate an increasing number of private jets, positioning Maafaru as a leading destination for luxury aviation.
General Manager of Airports at Island Aviation Services Limited, Mr. Mumthaz Ali, reflected on the year’s success: “The advancements we made last year demonstrate our dedication to innovation and excellence. The annual performance and December figures at Maafaru International Airport provide evidence of the airport’s increasing position as a leading luxury aviation hub. We have introduced additional services like ground transportation, and apron work is currently ongoing. Our airport is set to undergo a comprehensive transformation to better meet the needs of our passengers.”
As the Maldives solidifies its reputation as a top destination for affluent travelers, Maafaru International Airport plays a key role in driving the country’s tourism and economic growth.
