The High Commissioner of the Republic of India to the Republic of the Maldives, His Excellency G. Balasubramanian, formally presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, in a ceremony held on Monday morning at the President's Office.
The High Commissioner arrived at the President’s Office in a grand cultural procession called ‘Haiykolhu,’ accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band. This traditional escort began at Republic Square, highlighting the longstanding cultural ties and diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
During the ceremony, President Muizzu warmly welcomed High Commissioner G. Balasubramanian and officially accepted his credentials. In their subsequent meeting, the High Commissioner conveyed greetings and best wishes from the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Narendra Modi, and the External Affairs Minister of India, His Excellency Dr. S. Jaishankar.
The discussion between the two dignitaries focused on strengthening the bilateral relationship between the Maldives and India. They explored avenues for enhanced development cooperation, reviewed ongoing projects supported by the Indian government in the Maldives, and emphasized the importance of boosting investments across various sectors. Additionally, they discussed initiatives to further deepen people-to-people connections, underscoring the shared cultural and historical ties between the two nations.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to maintaining and expanding the partnership and cooperation that has been a cornerstone of the Maldives-India relationship.
