Imam of Masjid al Nabawi, Sheikh Dr. Salah al Budair, Concludes Official Visit to Maldives

The Imam of Masjid al Nabawi, Sheikh Dr. Salah al Budair, has concluded his official visit to the Maldives, which began last Monday at the invitation of Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed. This visit was in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s directive to host prominent Islamic personalities in the Maldives.

During his time in the Maldives, Sheikh al Budair engaged in several key activities, strengthening ties between the Maldives and the broader Islamic world.

Key Meetings and Activities

Courtesy Call with President Dr. Muizzu:The Imam paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, where they discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly related to Islamic affairs and the enhancement of religious practices in the Maldives.

Meeting with Islamic Minister and Supreme Council for Islamic Fatwa:Sheikh al Budair also met with Minister Dr. Shaheem Ali Saeed. A special session was held with the Supreme Council for Islamic Fatwa, focusing on improving the processes of issuing religious rulings (fatwas) in the Maldives.

Historic Visits:In his visit, Sheikh al Budair explored the historic Friday Mosque in Malé, a key religious and cultural site in the capital.

Engagement with the Youth:The Imam also spent time engaging with local children, particularly from preschools, as well as meeting young Imams, Khathibs, and religious scholars in the country. His visit also included interactions with Quran students at the Centre for Holy Quran and various private institutions.

Leading Prayers and Special Sermons

As part of his spiritual duties, Sheikh al Budair led the Maqrib and Isha prayers at the King Salman Mosque on Wednesday and the Isha prayers at the Islamic Centre on Thursday. Following the Isha prayer, he delivered a special sermon to the attendees. On Friday, he led the Friday prayers at the Islamic Centre, further deepening his engagement with the local community.

Meetings with Local Scholars and Students

In addition to his religious engagements, Sheikh al Budair met with Sheikh Ismail Mohamed, the first local scholar to graduate from the Islamic University of Medina, and interacted with students from the Islamic University of Maldives.

This visit has strengthened the cultural and religious ties between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, reinforcing the country's commitment to enhancing Islamic practices and education.
