President Dr Mohamed Muizzu recently met with the guesthouse operators of Rasdhoo Island in North Ari Atoll to address their concerns and discuss potential solutions for the island's tourism sector. The meeting was held at the island’s state house, where the operators shared their challenges and needs.
One of the primary concerns raised by the guesthouse operators was the erosion at the sandbank adjacent to the island. They urged the Government to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on the area and implement protective measures to prevent further degradation. The operators also highlighted the need for improvements to support the expansion of guesthouse operations on the island, including the installation of a US dollar ATM to facilitate financial transactions for tourists.
In response, President Dr Muizzu assured the guesthouse operators that the Administration, in collaboration with relevant agencies, would work to address the issues raised. He specifically emphasized that special measures would be introduced to tackle the sandbank erosion and protect the area from further environmental harm. The President also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the growth and development of the island's tourism sector.
