MALÉ, Maldives — President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have held extensive discussions aimed at finding practical solutions to the challenges encountered by the Maldivian community in Malaysia, with a special focus on higher education students and patients seeking specialised medical treatment.

The discussions took place at the President’s Office following high-level bilateral talks between the two leaders. Speaking during a joint press conference, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu highlighted Malaysia’s longstanding and vital role as a development partner in cultivating the Maldives’ human resource capacity.

The President expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Malaysian government for its steadfast support through the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) and its consistent efforts to broaden higher education scholarship opportunities for Maldivian youths. He also commended the warm hospitality and ongoing care extended by the Malaysian authorities to the Maldivian families and students residing in the country.

Addressing community welfare, President Muizzu noted that comprehensive discussions were held to streamline administrative procedures and eliminate hurdles faced by Maldivians living in Malaysia. Key outcomes of the talks include:

• Visa Facilitation: Both governments agreed to work towards easing visa procedures to ensure smooth travel and stay arrangements for Maldivian nationals, families, and visitors.
• Support for Healthcare Seekers: Formulating practical arrangements to assist Maldivian patients travelling to Malaysia for specialised healthcare services unavailable locally.
• Academic Partnerships: Fostering deeper institutional links between higher education institutions in both nations, expanding scholarship quotas, and launching joint research initiatives.

President Muizzu underscored that Malaysia remains a primary destination for Maldivians seeking education, medical treatment, and leisure. He affirmed that the positive outcomes of these discussions would deliver direct, tangible benefits to every Maldivian citizen in Malaysia, reflecting the strength and brotherly nature of the bilateral relationship.
