MALÉ, Maldives — The Government of the Maldives and the Government of Malaysia have signed two key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation in the fields of defence and Islamic affairs, formalised during the ongoing official visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The signing ceremony took place at the President's Office in the presence of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The two agreements signed between the two nations encompass:

• Defence Cooperation: Signed on behalf of the Maldivian government by Minister of Defence and National Service Hassan Rasheed, and on behalf of Malaysia by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Johari Abdul Ghani.
• Islamic Affairs: Signed on behalf of the Maldivian government by Minister of Islamic Affairs and Awqaf Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, and on behalf of Malaysia by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Johari Abdul Ghani.

The signing was held alongside extensive high-level official discussions between the two leaders following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's arrival on an official visit at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

During the discussions, both leaders explored avenues to enhance bilateral relations, reinforce collaboration in international multilateral forums, and unlock new opportunities for mutual partnership across diverse sectors.
