The final list of eligible voters for the may 21 parliamentary elections has been released.
After completing the process of re-registration for those who wish to cast their votes in places other than their native places, the Election Commission has already gazetted the final voters' list and put it up on its official website.
According to the Final list, a total of 2,84,663 voters are eligible to vote in this year's parliamentary elections. There were 139,361 women and 145,302 men.
Members will be elected to 93 assembly constituencies this time. A total of 369 Candidates are in the fray. The Election Commission has also revised the number of booths to be kept after the re-registration process is over.
According to the Election Commission, a total of 602 polling booths will be set up this time. A total of 181 ballot boxes will be set up in Male', 51 in Hulhumale' and nine in Villimale'. A total of 319 ballot boxes will be set up in atolls, three in foreign countries, 34 in resorts and five in prisons.
The countries where ballot boxes will be placed abroad have been selected based on the percentage of people who have re-registered to vote abroad. In foreign countries, ballot boxes are set up only if at least 150 people register to vote. According to the Election Commission, ballot boxes are set up in resorts only if at least 30 people register to vote in the resort.
Overseas, polling booths will be set up in Trivandrum in India, Colombo in Sri Lanka and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
