An elderly man has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after he sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Hulhumale'.

According to sources, the accident took place on Friday night.

A 67-year-old Maldivian man was injured when he was hit by a racing motorcycle near Hulhumale' Rasheed Mosque.

In a social media post, the victim's family said that the victim's head was fractured by more than 5 inches and there was bleeding in the chest and damage to his lungs. He is currently undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital and his condition is stated to be critical, family sources said.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the accident and has been remanded in police custody for five days by a local court. Further investigation into the accident is underway.
