The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Peoples National Congress (PNC) who are part of the ruling coalition have announced their plan to report todays clash in parliament to the authorities.

Tensions escalated in the session as coalition MPs disrupted the proceedings due, to opposition parties refusal to approve members of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzus cabinet.

The notable physical altercation involved Ahmed Easa, a Member of Parliament from Kendhikulhudhoo and Abdulla Shaheem an MP from Kanditheemu.

As per PPMs statement they claim that MPs affiliated with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) physically assaulted coalition members resulting in one MP sustaining a head injury.

The statement strongly criticizes the Speaker of Parliament for not intervening or stopping the altercation even accusing them of encouraging it. PPM urges parliament to prioritize the safety of MPs and prevent any disturbances.

According to the statement the coalition is currently taking steps to refer this matter to institutions, for investigation and review.
