Lancers secured the bronze medal at the Milo Sports Nation Basketball U21 Championship 2026 after defeating Nets 60-53 in a closely contested third-place playoff match in Malé City.
The victory was particularly sweet for Lancers, who avenged their earlier defeat to Nets during the league stage and ended their tournament campaign on a high note.
The match was evenly balanced from the opening tip-off. Lancers held a narrow 11-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter, with both teams showing strong defensive efforts.
Lancers gradually extended their lead in the second quarter, taking a 31-26 advantage into halftime as Nets struggled to contain their opponents' attacking play.
Nets responded strongly after the break and reduced the deficit to just one point, trailing 44-43 heading into the final quarter, setting up an exciting finish.
With the bronze medal on the line, Lancers produced a composed performance in the closing stages of the match. They outscored Nets in the final period to secure a 60-53 victory and clinch third place in the championship.
A key figure in the win was Juayl (No. 5), whose outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
For Nets, the defeat marked a disappointing end to a tournament that had started brightly with a victory over Lancers in the league phase. However, they were unable to repeat that result when it mattered most.
Lancers, meanwhile, can take pride in their resilience and determination as they finished the championship with a well-deserved bronze medal.
