Suspect Arrested in Lh. Naifaru Bootlegging Operation

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in Lh. Naifaru following a targeted counter-narcotics operation aimed at stopping the illegal smuggling of alcohol into the island.
The joint operation was launched by the Naifaru Police Station and the Counter-Narcotics Intelligence unit after receiving credible intelligence reports regarding the bootlegging activity.
Suspect Apprehended with Contraband
The suspect has been identified as Ibrahim Thihnaan Zhaheen, 18, originally from Villarathlaage in K. Kaashidhoo. Officers intercepted and arrested the suspect during the operation on May 24, 2026. A subsequent search led to the discovery and seizure of three bottles of alcohol in his possession.
Following his arrest, the suspect was presented before the local court for his remand hearing. The court ordered him to be remanded in custody for a period of 10 days while police continue their investigation.
The Maldives Police Service confirms the case is under active investigation.
