MALE, Maldives – His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, will embark on a state visit to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka from 3 to 6 May 2026. The visit comes at the invitation of His Excellency Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of Sri Lanka.

The four-day official tour aims to further solidify the long-standing bilateral ties between the two neighbouring South Asian nations. During the visit, President Dr Muizzu is scheduled to hold official talks with President Disanayaka, during which the two leaders will review the full spectrum of cooperation between their countries and explore avenues for enhanced collaboration.

A key highlight of the visit will be the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to be concluded across various sectors, reflecting the shared commitment to deepen practical cooperation. President Dr Muizzu will also meet with other high-level dignitaries in Sri Lanka.

The Maldivian delegation will be led by President Dr Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed. They will be accompanied by a high-profile delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials.

"This visit underscores President Dr Muizzu's firm commitment to strengthening relations with countries that make significant contributions to the Maldives' development and progress," the President’s Office said in a statement.

The upcoming state visit follows President Disanayaka’s own trip to the Maldives in July last year, which marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. That visit was widely hailed as a testament to the close and enduring friendship and mutual respect that characterise the relationship between Male and Colombo.

Further details regarding the President’s schedule and the specific MOUs to be signed will be released closer to the visit dates says president office of the Maldives.
