A groundbreaking ceremony was held today to commence the construction of a new police station in N. Miladhoo. The event took place during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to the island as part of his tour of inhabited islands in Noonu Atoll.
The ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, and attended by Miladhoo Island Council President, Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Najah, whose company has been contracted for the project, and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen.
Establishing dedicated police stations across all inhabited islands is a core priority of the current Administration. To achieve this, the Government has partnered with state-owned enterprises to build police facilities on 75 islands:
- Fenaka Corporation – 40 police stations, including Miladhoo.
- Road Development Corporation (RDC) – 20 police stations.
- Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) – 15 police stations, including one in Maafaru.
According to the Ministry of Homeland Security, this initiative supports the Government’s decentralisation policy, aimed at enhancing public safety by ensuring the presence of modern police infrastructure on all inhabited islands, except those earmarked for population relocation.
Once completed, approximately two-thirds of the Maldives’ inhabited islands will have state-of-the-art police facilities. The Ministry noted that the project is expected to reduce recurrent expenses while improving the reach and efficiency of police services nationwide.
