HDC Invites Public Feedback on New Hulhumale’ Masterplan Featuring Major Developments

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has opened public consultations for the newly introduced Hulhumale’ masterplan, which was unveiled on Tuesday with significant changes aimed at enhancing the island’s development. The plan was officially launched by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a ceremony, and public feedback has been invited from May 28th until June 16th.
HDC confirmed that residents and stakeholders can submit their opinions online through the corporation’s website. The masterplan will be finalized after carefully considering the input from the public.
HDC Managing Director Mauroof Jameel emphasized on Wednesday that the revised masterplan seeks to elevate the living standards of Hulhumale’ residents by incorporating new facilities and infrastructure. He reiterated HDC’s commitment to ongoing development that respects and reflects public opinion.
President Muizzu, while presenting the plan, expressed his vision for Hulhumale’ to evolve into the Maldives’ future financial capital.
Key highlights of the new masterplan include a significant expansion of the Hulhumale’ harbor from 36 hectares to 53 hectares, featuring upgraded facilities, modern equipment, and a larger passenger terminal. The plan also outlines new spaces for schools, mosques, office complexes, and other essential infrastructure developments.
HDC noted that the previous masterplan was projected to generate 131,000 job opportunities, and with the enhancements introduced in the new plan, this figure has increased by 93,000, bringing the total projected employment opportunities to 224,000.
