GDh. Thinadhoo Industrial Zone Reclamation and Shore Protection Progressing Steadily

The Land Reclamation and Shore Protection project at GDh. Thinadhoo, aimed at developing an industrial zone, is making notable progress. According to the latest update, the variation works on the quay wall are now nearing completion, while construction of the bridge retaining wall is currently underway at the site.
The project, contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), was officially signed on 9th January 2023 with the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure. Its primary objective is to reclaim land and establish necessary shore protection structures to create a secure and accessible area for industrial operations on the island.
The comprehensive scope of the project includes:
- Land Reclamation: 135,820 square meters
- Shore Protection: 1,521 meters using rock revetment
- Quay Wall (Precast L Block): 621 meters
- Quay Wall (Sheet Pile): 166 meters
- Harbour Paving: 4,492.3 square meters
- Access Bridge: 15 meters
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly boost economic activity on GDh. Thinadhoo by facilitating better infrastructure for industrial development and improving accessibility to the new reclaimed land.
