The Maldives has donated MVR 500,000 worth of food aid to Palestinian families in Gaza, as part of its continued humanitarian support through the Zakat Fund.

According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the aid was made possible through Fitr Zakat contributions collected via the Zakat House. The food packages have been successfully delivered to families impacted by the ongoing Israeli airstrikes.

A video shared by the ministry shows aid being distributed in destroyed neighborhoods, where families are struggling to survive amidst the rubble. The donation boxes are clearly marked with messages of solidarity: “From the Maldives Zakat House to the people of Palestine.”

This marks the second consecutive year the Maldives has provided direct humanitarian assistance to Palestine via the Zakat Fund. Previously, drinking water was also delivered to affected communities.

Since October 2023, relentless Israeli attacks on Gaza have resulted in widespread destruction, thousands of deaths, and the displacement of countless civilians. The Maldives has consistently voiced support for the Palestinian cause on the international stage, with calls for a permanent ceasefire and justice for the victims.
