With dredging works for the new harbor basin now completed, the team has moved on to the next phase—quay wall construction—marked by the installation of concrete blocks.

This project is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance maritime infrastructure across the country, improving accessibility, safety, and economic opportunities for island communities.

Awarded to MTCC on March 12, 2023, the comprehensive scope of work includes:

  1. 98,099 cbm of dredging
  2. 368 meters of breakwater construction
  3. 130 meters of revetment
  4. 27 meters of groyne
  5. 249 meters of quay wall construction
  6. Construction of an access platform, a jetty, and pavement with harbor lights and drainage
  7. Installation of navigational lights and mooring buoys

MTCC stated that the project is progressing steadily and remains focused on delivering a modern and functional harbor that will significantly benefit the Kendhikulhudhoo community. The upgraded harbor will support safer boat operations, facilitate economic activity, and ensure better infrastructure resilience.
