Maldives Elected to UN Commission on the Status of Women for the First Time

The Maldives has been elected to the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for the first time, securing a seat for the 2026-2030 term in an election held today in New York.
This marks the first successful international candidature of the current administration, demonstrating the country’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality.
Following the election, Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel took to social media to express his pride in the achievement, highlighting the Maldives’ dedication to advancing gender equality.
Minister Khaleel also emphasized that the Maldives looks forward to collaborating with global partners on the Commission to drive effective policies that promote and protect the rights of women both domestically and internationally.
