A significant quantity of alcohol has been seized in Hulhumalé following a police operation conducted last night.

Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement intercepted a van at 9:46 p.m., suspected of transporting illicit alcohol into the city. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 75 bottles, each containing 500 ml of what is believed to be alcohol.

The driver of the van, identified as Tirtha Bahadur, a 37-year-old Nepalese national, was immediately taken into custody. In addition to his arrest, police also towed the vehicle involved in the transportation of the contraband.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the origin or intended destination of the alcohol, but investigations are ongoing. The Maldives has strict regulations on alcohol distribution, and such illicit transportation poses serious legal consequences.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in preventing the illegal circulation of alcohol within the community.
