The Maldives Ministry of Tourism has taken swift action to address recent remarks made by State Minister for Tourism Mohamed Nihad, suspending him from his duties and clarifying that his comments do not represent the official stance of the government.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Ministry reaffirmed the Maldives' reputation as a safe, secure, and welcoming destination for visitors. It emphasized the country’s dedication to providing a peaceful and enjoyable experience under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The Ministry highlighted 2024 as a landmark year for tourism, with record-breaking arrivals showcasing the Maldives’ enduring appeal. On February 10, the country welcomed its highest-ever daily arrivals of 10,213 visitors, contributing to a monthly total of 217,392 tourists — a new record. These milestones underscore the trust and confidence travelers worldwide place in the Maldives as a premier destination.
As the country nears the significant milestone of welcoming 2 million visitors this year, the Ministry stressed its commitment to ensuring every guest feels cared for and embraced by Maldivian hospitality. The government also reaffirmed its dedication to preserving the nation’s reputation as a peaceful sanctuary while supporting local communities and fostering economic growth through sustainable tourism.
“The Maldives is more than a destination; it’s a haven where nature’s beauty meets unmatched hospitality,” the Ministry stated, inviting travelers from across the globe to experience the nation’s charm and serenity.
This decisive action underscores the government’s focus on maintaining the Maldives’ global standing as one of the world’s most sought-after vacation destinations while protecting its cultural and environmental treasures.
