Maldives State Shipping (MSS) and the Malaysian Maritime Academy (MMASB/ALAM) have entered into a landmark partnership to bolster the training and development of future maritime professionals. An MOU was signed today at the Malaysian Maritime Academy campus in Melaka, Malaysia, marking a significant step toward advancing the Maldives' maritime sector.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed Shareef, Managing Director and CEO of MSS, and Eddie Ahmad Khodzali, Managing Director and CEO of MMASB. The signing ceremony was attended by Her Excellency Dr. Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed, the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Malaysia.

A Boost for the Kalaaseen Scholarship

The partnership will primarily benefit recipients of the MSS Kalaaseen Scholarship, a program launched in 2021 to nurture the next generation of maritime leaders. Through this collaboration, scholarship recipients will gain access to ALAM’s world-class training resources, including advanced courses in Navigation and Engineering, and practical sea-time training.

This enhanced training is expected to equip Maldivian students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the global maritime industry, ensuring MSS and the nation continue to build a robust maritime workforce.

Strengthening the National Maritime Sector

Speaking on the occasion, MSS CEO Ahmed Shareef expressed optimism about the collaboration.

Eddie Ahmad Khodzali, CEO of MMASB, also emphasized the significance of the initiative.

A Shared Vision for Maritime Excellence

The partnership underscores the commitment of both MSS and MMASB to promote knowledge-sharing and international collaboration in the maritime sector. It also aligns with the Maldives' long-term goals of enhancing technical expertise and leadership within the industry.

With this new agreement, MSS and MMASB have paved the way for a promising future in maritime education and training, ensuring that Maldivian youth have access to the resources and opportunities needed to thrive in a competitive global market.
