President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu Concludes Official Visit to New York after Attending 79th UNGA

President His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has concluded his official visit to New York, where he attended the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The President departed New York on Saturday after a series of high-profile engagements and speeches addressing global leaders on critical issues.
During the visit, President Dr. Muizzu delivered a landmark address at the General Debate of the 79th UNGA, where he called for action on key global challenges, including climate change, renewable energy, socio-economic development, and digital transformation. In a historic milestone for the Maldives, he also became the first Maldivian President to address the UN Security Council in the 59 years since the country joined the United Nations, underscoring the Maldives’ growing diplomatic presence on the global stage.
In addition to his speeches, President Dr. Muizzu participated in several sideline events where he co-chaired discussions on critical global issues and met with world leaders. His bilateral meetings included a high-level discussion with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, focusing on areas of mutual interest, such as climate action and sustainable development.
The President also engaged in multilateral talks with Heads of Delegations attending UNGA 79 and took the opportunity to meet with the Maldivian community residing in New York, where he listened to their concerns and provided updates on his administration's initiatives.
As part of his visit, President Dr. Muizzu delivered a speech at Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs, as part of the prestigious "Dean’s Leadership Series", where he highlighted the Maldives’ strategic role in the Indian Ocean and its leadership in addressing climate change. He also toured the Google Office in New York, where he discussed opportunities for collaboration on digital literacy, AI integration, and data-driven solutions for climate resilience.
President Dr. Muizzu’s visit to New York and his engagements at the UNGA have further solidified the Maldives’ commitment to global cooperation and addressing pressing international issues.
