President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reassured the public that the current administration has no plans to introduce tolls for bridge usage. This confirmation was made through a recent post on the social media platform ‘X’.
In his statement, President Muizzu addressed concerns surrounding the potential implementation of tolls, clarifying that the discussion on this topic was part of the “Malé Fahi” Programme announced the previous evening. The programme includes a technical-level research initiative aimed at providing an advisory opinion on various infrastructural and economic matters.
President Muizzu emphasized that even if the research recommends the introduction of tolls, the administration will not proceed with such a measure until key issues are addressed. Specifically, he outlined that any potential toll implementation would be deferred until after the completion of crucial projects, including the development of Malé City’s road infrastructure, resolution of parking problems, and significant improvement in the economic conditions of the people and the nation.
The President’s statement aims to alleviate public concern and clarify the administration’s position on the matter, underscoring a commitment to addressing pressing urban and economic issues before considering additional revenue measures.
