President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended a special ceremony on Monday to commemorate the completion of the Emergency Service Expansion Project at Hulhumalé Hospital, marking a significant milestone in the Government’s New Policy Initiative to strengthen healthcare services nationwide.

During the event, the President toured the newly upgraded Emergency Room, engaged with hospital staff, and spoke with patients receiving care, underscoring his administration’s commitment to enhancing the quality of emergency healthcare services available to the public.

Modern Facilities for Critical Care

The newly expanded Emergency Room is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology, including a dedicated resuscitation room designed to handle critical and life-threatening cases efficiently. These enhancements reflect the Government’s strategic focus on building a responsive healthcare system that is equipped to handle major medical emergencies.

With the completion of the project, the bed capacity in the Emergency Room has doubled, enabling the facility to serve 14 patients simultaneously. This expansion is expected to relieve the burden on urgent care services across the Greater Malé Region and ensure faster, more effective medical intervention for residents.

Commitment to Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure

Speaking about the development, officials highlighted that the expansion of emergency services at Hulhumalé Hospital forms a crucial component of the Government's broader efforts to improve national healthcare infrastructure. The initiative aligns with President Muizzu’s healthcare reform agenda, which prioritizes accessibility, modernization, and equitable service delivery throughout the country.

Multiple healthcare enhancement initiatives are being rolled out as part of this agenda, aiming to upgrade facilities, expand capacity, and improve healthcare outcomes across both urban and island communities.

This newly completed project stands as a testament to the administration’s resolve to ensure that the healthcare system is resilient, forward-looking, and capable of addressing the evolving needs of the Maldivian people.
