Maldivian Hajj Pilgrims Receive Historic Welcome at Jeddah Airport Under Makkah Route Initiative

Maldivian Hajj pilgrims were warmly welcomed at Jeddah Airport in a historic ceremony, marking the first time they have received such distinguished hospitality upon arrival in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The ceremony, held under the auspices of the prestigious Makkah Route Initiative, was attended by officials representing the initiative, the Maldivian Hajj Mission, the Maldivian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, and the Hajj Corporation, highlighting the importance of this milestone.

Launched officially in the Maldives earlier today, the Makkah Route Initiative has revolutionized the pilgrimage experience by allowing Maldivian pilgrims to complete all Saudi immigration, customs, and health formalities before departing from Velana International Airport. This seamless process enabled pilgrims to bypass traditional immigration queues upon arrival, allowing them to proceed directly to their accommodations in Mecca with ease and comfort.

The initiative reflects the Government of Maldives’ commitment, under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, to significantly enhance the quality of services provided to Maldivian pilgrims.

Today, a group of 234 pilgrims departed from the Maldives under this new arrangement, with a second group scheduled to depart tomorrow morning, continuing the journey toward a safe, dignified, and spiritually fulfilling Hajj.
