Lando Norris has committed his long term future to McLaren, signing a new contract that will keep the reigning Formula 1 World Champion with the team until at least the end of the 2030 season.

The new agreement also includes a multi year option that could keep Norris at McLaren beyond 2030, giving the team long term stability around its star driver.

Norris joined McLaren’s Formula 1 programme nine years ago with the goal of helping the team return to the front and fight for championships. That ambition became reality in 2025 when he secured his maiden Drivers’ Championship with McLaren.

Now, after recently winning back to back races in Hungary and the Netherlands, Norris has chosen to continue building his career with the team rather than looking elsewhere.

“When I started this journey nine years ago, I was clear about the goals I wanted to achieve: to get McLaren back to the front and to win championships,” Norris said. He added that the team had achieved that goal but wanted to continue winning.

The timing of the announcement is significant. Norris has emerged as Kimi Antonelli’s biggest challenger in the 2026 championship after his recent run of form, with McLaren showing major improvements in the second half of the season.

McLaren’s decision to secure Norris also provides certainty around one of the strongest driver lineups on the grid. Oscar Piastri remains alongside Norris, giving the team two proven race winners as it looks towards the next generation of Formula 1 regulations.

For Norris, the deal represents more than simply staying with the team. McLaren has been the only Formula 1 home he has known, and together they have gone from a midfield outfit to world champions.

With Norris now locked in until at least 2030, McLaren have made it clear that their future plans are built around the reigning world champion.

After achieving his first championship with McLaren, Norris now has his sights set on one thing: winning more titles with the team that helped him reach the top.
