Max Verstappen stormed to victory in a chaotic, rain affected Singapore Grand Prix Sprint after surviving a dramatic race at Marina Bay, beating Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to claim a memorable win for Red Bull.
The race started more than 30 minutes late after heavy rain left standing water across parts of the street circuit. Drivers completed their formation laps behind the safety car before the race finally got underway on intermediate tyres, with poor visibility and slippery conditions creating a serious challenge from the very beginning.
Verstappen started from pole position, but George Russell initially took the lead when the lights went out. However, Russell’s race quickly unravelled as he lost control on the wet surface and spun out, bringing out the safety car and handing Verstappen the opportunity to regain control of the race.
Once back in front, Verstappen showed his experience in the difficult conditions, managing his tyres and maintaining his advantage as several drivers struggled to keep their cars on the track.
Lewis Hamilton delivered an impressive performance for Ferrari, working his way into second place and putting pressure on the leaders whenever the opportunity appeared. Charles Leclerc completed the podium in third, giving Ferrari a valuable double podium after a race filled with incidents.
The biggest drama came in the closing stages when McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri made contact while fighting for position. Norris attempted an overtake on Piastri, but the two cars collided, ending Piastri’s race and adding another painful moment to McLaren’s afternoon.
Several other drivers also failed to finish, including Gabriel Bortoleto, Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez and Franco Colapinto, as the treacherous conditions caught out drivers throughout the field.
Championship leader Kimi Antonelli finished sixth, collecting valuable points while his closest rival Russell retired. The result gave Antonelli an important advantage in the title fight, while Verstappen’s victory further underlined Red Bull’s improved form following his recent success in Malaysia.
For Verstappen, the win was especially significant at Marina Bay, where he had never previously won a Grand Prix or secured pole position before this weekend. After taking sprint pole on Friday, he converted it into victory through a demanding race that tested both driver skill and team strategy.
From the rain delayed start to Russell’s early exit and McLaren’s late collision, Singapore delivered chaos from beginning to end. But when the chequered flag fell, it was Verstappen who stood above the rest, conquering the wet streets of Marina Bay to take a sensational Sprint victory.
