Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has increased the purchase price of skipjack tuna from local fishermen to MVR 21.00 per kilogram.

Since June 14, MIFCO had been purchasing skipjack tuna at a rate of MVR 20.00 per kilogram. With today's price adjustment, the rate per kilogram has increased by MVR 1.00.

MIFCO stated that starting today, all its collection centers and fish-weighing vessels will buy skipjack tuna at the new rate of MVR 21.00 per kilogram.

Following this price adjustment, the new rate will be applied across MIFCO's main facilities:

• Key Complexes: Kooddoo Fisheries Complex (KFC), Addu Fisheries Complex (AFC), and Felivaru Fisheries Complex (FFC) jetties.
• Major Harbors: Felivaru, Malé, GDh. Thinadhoo, L. Maamendhoo, and R. Maduvvari harbors.
• Collection Vessels: Randhi-20, Randhi-23, Randhi-25, Randhi-29, and KAL 401.

This price hike comes at a time when fishing activity across the Maldives has slowed down. The resulting drop in catch volume has driven up market demand for skipjack tuna.
