An American citizen has been arrested in the Maldives after attempting to enter the country with live ammunition.

According to Maldives Police Service, the foreign national, identified as Kobolo Brittain Tyler, arrived in the country on Sunday. Upon his arrival, authorities inspected his luggage and discovered a loaded magazine containing live bullets.

Following the discovery, he was taken into custody under a court order.

Police confirmed that the suspect was produced before the court to determine his remand status, where the judge ordered him to be held in custody for 10 days for further investigation.

Under Maldivian law, importing warlike weapons, ammunition, and explosives into the country is a severe offense carrying heavy legal penalties.
