Max Verstappen has ended months of speculation over his Formula 1 future by committing his long term future to Red Bull Racing, signing a new contract that will keep him with the team until the end of the 2030 season.

The announcement comes ahead of Verstappen’s home Dutch Grand Prix and brings an end to growing rumours that the four time world champion could leave Red Bull for Mercedes or McLaren.

Verstappen was originally contracted with Red Bull until 2028, but his new agreement extends that commitment by another two seasons. The deal also includes performance related clauses, but Verstappen has made it clear that he wants to continue building his future with the team.

The decision is particularly significant given Red Bull’s difficult start to the 2026 season. The team has struggled to match Mercedes under the new regulations, with Verstappen currently well behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli.

Despite the team’s struggles, Verstappen has chosen to stay, with the Dutchman describing Red Bull as his second family. The four time world champion has been with the organisation since 2016 and has won all four of his world titles with the team.

Red Bull Team Principal Laurent Mekies welcomed the new agreement, highlighting Verstappen’s importance to the team’s future as Red Bull works to return to the front of the grid.

The timing of the announcement also provides Red Bull with much needed stability. With major changes already taking place within the team, including GianPiero Lambiase’s future move to McLaren in 2028, keeping Verstappen gives the team a clear centrepiece for its next chapter.

For Verstappen, the decision represents a major show of faith in Red Bull’s ability to recover. With the new regulations still in their early stages, the Dutchman will now have several seasons to help the team rebuild and challenge for more championships.

The message is clear. Max Verstappen and Red Bull are staying together until 2030.
