A severe maritime accident occurred early this morning near the Galufalhu area, involving a speedboat carrying two individuals. The vessel, identified as the "Tour Guard," collided with another craft, leaving its captain and a crew member with major injuries. Both victims were quickly evacuated from the scene and are currently receiving emergency medical treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé.

According to a media official from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the speedboat had departed from Villingili and was en route to Gili Lankanfushi Resort when the incident took place. Authorities received information about the crash while the vessel was still operating very close to the waters of Villingili. The impact left the front section of the "Tour Guard" extensively damaged.

The Police confirmed that the accident took place at around 5:45 AM. The two individuals who sustained serious injuries in the collision have been identified as a 38-year-old Maldivian male and a 30-year-old expatriate male. Coastguard personnel from the MNDF Male’ Area Command Second Squadron arrived at the location shortly after receiving the report to assist with rescue and recovery operations.

While the two crew members are being treated in the emergency ward of IGMH, authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the dangerous collision. In light of recent unfavorable weather conditions and increased incidents at sea, maritime authorities continue to urge all seagoing vessels to exercise maximum caution and strictly adhere to safety protocols during travel.
