The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has officially prohibited motorised vessels from entering Hulhumalé Channel Park, effective today.

The decision, announced earlier this week, closes the channel linking Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Phase 2 to all engine-powered vehicles.

Hulhumalé Channel Park is a popular destination for sea sports such as jet skiing and also serves as the site of ongoing coral rehabilitation initiatives. HDC said the ban was introduced to ensure the safety of users while supporting the revitalisation of corals in the area.

Central to these efforts is the Coral Garden Project, launched in July 2025 within the Channel Park, which aims to restore and protect the marine ecosystems of the channel.
