A Sri Lankan man has sustained serious injuries after being struck by a lorry while working near an excavator in Thilafushi this afternoon, police have confirmed.

The incident was reported at around 2:15 PM, when the victim was run over by the lorry. He was rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé, where he remains in critical condition.

Police said the lorry was driven by 28-year-old Indian national Vignesh Anadrai, who has since been taken into custody. The vehicle involved in the accident has also been towed from the site.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Further details are yet to be released.
