The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a weather advisory warning of adverse conditions across the country from July 17 to July 20, as the southwest monsoon is expected to strengthen.
According to MET, the intensified monsoon will bring strong winds, rough to very rough seas, and widespread rain with thundershowers over the next four days.
The forecast indicates that average wind speeds will remain high, with gusty conditions likely during showers. Sea conditions are expected to be rough in most areas, and very rough during showers, particularly in open waters. MET also warned of possible wave surges during high tides.
Authorities have urged seafarers and the public to exercise caution and to remain updated with the latest forecasts and alerts during the advisory period.
